He knew who Nathaniel was before meeting him. But more importantly, Jesus knew Nathaniel’s heart! He knew what was on the inside.

There are two miracles here. First, the obvious that Jesus “saw” something that He did not see with His eyes. He knew physically who Nathaniel was and that he had been under a fig tree when talked to. That was a miracle. There is no earthly way for Jesus to have actually “seen” this. How do we know? Because Nathaniel himself considered this a miracle and thereby believed.

But secondly and perhaps more importantly, Jesus saw his heart. The man inside, the secrets no one else saw. Without ever having talked to or studied Nathaniel, Jesus knew him.

Today, Jesus knows you. He knows all about you; your thoughts, fears, sins, secrets, strengths, weaknesses, everything! He knows you better than you know yourself! He knows what no one else knows about you.

And yet, He loved you enough to take all that hidden burden you carry inside and die with it at Calvary. No one killed Jesus, He died willingly in your place, to pay your debt. He knew your debt and He paid it for you, free and clear.

Then Jesus conquered death itself, that you might live through Him, a life of freedom from all that we were.

Why? Because He loves you! He loves you that much, just as you are. And yes, He knows who you are inside and out. He still loves you!

That’s the miracle! Not just that Jesus, God of all creation, the one that calmed the storms and conquered death, not just that He truly KNOWS you. But that He loves you anyway. Just as you are.

Just as you are…
